February 21, 2024

To our amazing fans:

Well, it was an interesting day.  I thought a lot about what to say here today.  As the day progressed, my thoughts changed…and changed.  The day started out at twenty-four degrees at 7:30 this morning.  Needless to say, there was not a lot of business.  However, by lunchtime the temperature had risen, and sales came in.

Towards the end of the day, there were a couple of customers that each said, “I’ve seen you here often.  And I’ve been meaning to stop by and try you out.”  We started last April.  So, we are coming up on a year of being in business.  I keep hoping to build our customer base as fast as possible.  It can be frustrating.  But I look at the behavior of me and my wife, and I realize that we did not try one of our favorite restaurants in Harrisonburg until after we had been here for THREE YEARS!  So, we can’t be upset.  We are just grateful for those who try us, like us, and return!  Hopefully, with each new person, we can gain new customers and friends.

The next part of the day was certainly more challenging.  Insurance is a significant part of everyone’s life.  Health insurance, car insurance, home insurance, and more are challenging each month.  When we started this, we did a generous amount of research to determine what insurance one needs for a food truck.  We found a great company that offered great coverage at good rates.  But then…

The company that insured us decided they would not insure food trucks anymore.  So, we needed to get a new policy by March 1st!  It seems that many insurance companies are dropping food trucks.  And many that continue to insure them have increased their rates substantially.  Our agent worked hard and found policies that were comparable to what we had, and were even a little less expensive.  The man who made that happen is Million Daneker of Farmers Insurance.  We are grateful to have him watching our backs.

What a day…

So, what is going on with Ott Street Eats?  Well, we are going to be part of the Downtown Happy Hour on March 1st! (My birthday)  There will be several amazing restaurants and bars present at this event.  Check out the link below that will lead you to more information.

Or if a Facebook link is better for you…

Also, on March 16th, we will be at Bluestone Vineyards from 5-9 pm for their St. Paddy’s Day celebration!  I will give more details in the next newsletter as well as some dates that we have coming up at Brothers Craft Brewing! We are getting excited with the warm weather and possibilities!  We book weddings and corporate events.  We are helping non-profits and families. But, most of all, we are truly having fun exploring foods, ingredients, and techniques.
